The IOTA & Hyperledger Agri-D Food Hack

5-7th November 2021

The Agri-D Hackathon is a collaborative event created by the Agri-D Convention, IOTA Foundation, and the Hyperledger Community. Bringing together a global collective of developers and designers to challenge their skills towards building open-source solutions in DLT and Blockchain that can provide sustainable and social development solutions within agriculture and the food supply chain.

Our aim is to inspire developers and individuals around the world to investigate and participate in building technology for social good, with a collection of educational and guiding talks and workshops with leading experts in the areas of sustainable development, DLT technology, and open-source software.

The Agri-D Hackathon will bring together developers, entrepreneurs, experts, and everyone inbetween to an event that will push teams of innovators to brainstorm and develop on top of the IOTA and Hyperledger technologies. To create new tools and applications that can provide answers to the main challenges set before them.

Held over the course of three days, from the 5th-7th November 2021, with finalists will present live to the global virtual audience in attendance at the Agri-D Convention on 12th November.

Winning teams will also be supported in further developing their solutions through mentoring and guidance from the IOTA Foundation, Hyperledger and the supporting communities.

Event Format#

The event will be an online open Hackathon supporting the exploration of two different technologies to build out solutions across three different tracks.

The event will feature a number of interactive talks and discussions, as well as insights from industry and international experts:

  • IOTA & HYPERLEDGER Developer Talks
  • Industry Presentations
  • Technical Walk-Throughs
  • Industry Specialist Mentors
  • Domain Expert Presentations
  • Blockchain Workshops
  • Over $5000 worth of prizes

Calendar#

The event runs from: 0900 (CET) - Friday 5th November until 2000 (CET) on Sunday 7th November.

With finalists announced ready to present their pitches live at the Agri-D Convention on: Friday 12th November 2021.

The Technology#

The event will introduce and give insight into various different technologies across two major open source technology stacks. Introducing users to various aspects of blockchain and DLT such as distributed ledgers, smart contracts, digital identity, cryptographic security, decentralized systems, and IoT. The two technologies presented will be the IOTA Ledger and HYPERLEDGER.

IOTA#

IOTA is an open-source distributed ledger and cryptocurrency designed for the Internet of things (IoT) supported by a global community and guided by the IOTA Foundation, who are a board member of International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications (INATBA) and founding member of the Trusted IoT Alliance and Mobility Open Blockchain Initiative (MOBI). Working to promote blockchain and distributed ledgers in regulatory approaches, for sustainable development, IoT ecosystems, and mobility. Learn more: www.iota.org

HYPERLEDGER#

Hyperledger is an open-source community focused on developing a suite of stable frameworks, tools, and libraries for enterprise-grade blockchain deployments. Hyperledger incubates and promotes a range of business blockchain technologies, including distributed ledger frameworks. A distributed ledger is a multi-party database with no central trusted authority. The differentiating nuance is that when transactions are processed in blocks according to the ordering of a blockchain, the result is a distributed ledger. Open-source distributed ledger frameworks hosted at Hyperledger include Hyperledger Besu, Burrow, Fabric, Indy, Iroha and Sawtooth. Learn more: www.hyperledger.org

Developer Tracks#

Each team has the option to chose between either of the technologies to focus on for their solution. Mentors, experts, and guidance will be supported for both technologies, with indtroductions and quick start advice presented in the morning of Day 1 of the event.

The challenges within each of the technology tracks are the same and focus on key issues within agriculture and food, that present teams with the opportunity to develop solutions that can support sustainable and inclusive food systems, for a more resilient and safer future for out food.

Challenges#

  • Sustainable Agriculture Create solutions that can support more sustainable agriculture practices across any number of global agricultural systems.

  • Rural Development Develop community focused solutions that can empower or bring value and support to rural farming communities.

  • Food Waste Build solutions that can offer practical answers in reducing food and product waste within agriculture and the food supply chain.
